Where once not a mandatory requirement, with many of the lower level UAE workforce relying on government health cards for any basic treatment, following the Dubai Health Insurance Law No 11 of 2013 that came into effect in January 2014, it was announced that by the end of June 2018, 98% of Dubai’s population with residence visa’s will fall into the mandatory health insurance cover category, as reported by Gulf News.  Failure to comply with the regulations will result in significant fines.


With the essential insurance package being offered by many of the key industry insurance providers, whose premium is between AED 550 –
650 per annum, it will ensure all blue-collar workers will receive sufficient healthcare cover. Now with the medical insurance policy being linked to visa applications, it is making it impossible for companies to avoid providing this essential necessity to its workforce.
